"If you’re looking for your daughter to build solid field hockey fundamentals from middle school on through high school, Phil’s Mystic Hockey Club is a great place to be. Phil Danaher’s knowledge of discrete skills such as ball striking, proper grip, foot positioning, and other techniques make him a great field hockey instructor. A specific example of this is the immediate result I saw after one lesson a couple years ago. After Phil made some grip and swing adjustments my daughter's swing was more effortless yet she hit the ball a lot harder and straighter. Phil is a swing doctor. This is just one example of many; of how Phil’s fundamentals immediately show up on the field. Phil is also very good at matching a kid to the right college program. I’ve witnessed it many times with a lot of players over a six-year period. A lot of coaches he’s known for years respect his assessment. That’s very important. Also, I will always remember all the fun we had on Mystic tournament road trips. I will miss that the most." -John Tersigni. - Parent
"My experience playing with Mystic Hockey Club has led me to a multitude of opportunities. I began playing with them in my senior year of high school, yet undecided if I wanted to play in college or whether or not I was even good enough to do so. My Mystic teammates included several girls my age who were committed to play in college and this opened my eyes to what opportunities might be out there. While coaching me to develop my play on astro-turf and indoor surfaces, Phil also provided me with insight into the best schools and programs for me. I can still remember the day he mentioned the College of William and Mary as a possibility. My first thoughts were, “Colonial Williamsburg? Is this really where I want to go to college?” But from Phil’s recommendation a school visit followed in which I fell in love with the school and a spot was offered to me on the team. I had the best college experience and loved being a student athlete and am grateful every time I am reminded of my season with the Mystic Hockey Team. I’ve since used my field hockey ties to work at an English boarding school as a teacher and coach, and currently as the assistant coach at Davidson College, where I keep my eye out for up and coming Mystic girls. Phil’s knowledge of the game and understanding of what it takes to thrive in the field hockey world are priceless. The ties that are made with Mystic Field Hockey can benefit you throughout your life, and this continues to prove true to me". -Rebecca Van Zee - Player/College Coach
"I always thought I would play basketball in college, until I started to play for Mystic. I had considered field hockey a sport I would only play for school. Once I got to high school things changed. A few of my friends were already playing both indoor and outdoor hockey and Coach Danaher convinced me that this was a way to help me get to play a sport as a D1 athlete. When I joined, my skills improved tremendously due to continuous and intense play at practice and a knowledgeable coaching staff. As we entered tournaments, coaches came to watch us play. Coach Danaher gave me the confidence to believe that I had a chance at playing at a D1 school. My junior year the team got a bid to the National Festival and afterwards I heard from schools that I had never believed I would be able to attend. Coach Danaher did a wonderful job of supporting me as I worked through the recruiting process. Eventually, I decided on Brown which is a perfect fit not only field hockey-wise but academically and socially. At Brown I have been given opportunities to achieve my goals and chances to pursue others. None of this would have been possible without Mystic and Coach Danaher". -Kate Hyland - Player/All-Ivy Honors
